Did you know you can do your thrift shopping online? I heard of online thrift stores like thredUp for the first time a few years ago, but I was sceptical. Isn't the best part of secondhand shopping wandering around the store, touching things, trying it on, all that good stuff?

Maybe we can chalk it up to another way motherhood has changed me, but I no longer like going into stores. I'm serious. I don't even go to the store for groceries anymore! I've been placing curbside pickup orders since my daughter was born, and I LOVE it.

I used to enjoy taking time to wander around putting thought into each decision, but now, I can’t be bothered. I make enough decisions in a day without a shopping trip, and I can think of so many better ways to spend the time it takes to pack up the kids, go to the store, wander around and lug everything home. I’d rather bake some bread or sit cozy on the couch reading books to my babies.

I'm glad I finally got the courage to try secondhand shopping online because I have been SO happy with the results. Here are three reasons I think you should give it a go too!

**please note - if you're Canadian like me, you MAY end up paying duty on large orders. I was happy with the deals I got overall, but I wanted to warn you!

1. Save Time

Time feels completely different now that I’m a mom. I’m able to get so much more done in a short amount of time, and I’m much more selective over how I spend my time.

Working around my kids' opposite nap schedules doesn't leave much time for outings, so if we're going somewhere, I would rather save my energy for a social outing than time wandering around a store. I can save drive time, time loading up the car and time belabouring decisions. ThredUP even lets me claim an item in my cart for an hour so I can think about it calmly instead of death-gripping an item as a stranger not-so-subtly follows me around the store.

I can also shop for the whole family in ONE place knowing I’m getting a deal instead of visiting dozens of sites or stores trying to compare prices. Convenient filters allow me to ONLY see a specific size and colour or filter by my favourite brands. No more thinking I found the *perfect* item and realizing it was on the wrong size rack!

2. Save Money

Some stores have a very dangerous effect on me. When I go into Costco, I turn into a completely different person, suddenly thinking I need a new vacuum and 17 sleepers for a kid who already has a bin full.

Thrift stores have the same effect on me. I find a cute outfit at the thrift store and suddenly, I'm a jumpsuit girl, even though I've never happily worn a jumpsuit in my life or I decide I need another jacket, even though I came to look at swimsuits. Shopping on my phone helps me stay focused and clear-headed.

3. Save the World

I'll be honest, my main reasons for shopping secondhand are selfish. The time and money I save are much more my focus as a busy mom of two.

But I always appreciate an opportunity to be more mindful, and shopping secondhand feels like a way to be mindful without the extra effort of thought and research. I don’t feel pressure to look at where my clothes are made or what fabric they are since I’m not the first owner. It’s also a great way to experiment with a new style without waste or invest in higher quality pieces at a price within my budget.

So tell me - would you try thrift shopping online? Why or why not?
